Lyon, France: At least 18,000 protesters marched through downtown Lyon, France, on October 19, 2010, against President Sarkozy's propsed pension reform.

A vote on France's controversial pension reform plans, including a rise in the retirement age, is imminent in the Senate.

The government of President Nicolas Sarkozy says it will use a special measure to speed the reform bill's passage through the upper house.

With a vote drawing closer, French unions have called two further days of strike action in what has become the biggest and most sustained anti-austerity protests in Europe.
